Much of Brad Cook’s long and successful career in public education was spent as a teacher, health educator and track coach in the city of Brockton, MA. He has also taught in rural and suburban settings. His considerable experience working with young people, parents and fellow educators in a diverse mix of teaching environments and student populations has given him the rare ability to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds. It has also endowed him with the gifts of empathy and humility.

Brad’s early years weren’t indicative of his later achievements however. Shortly after he turned seventeen a quiet, somewhat introverted young man faced a major life crisis. His world was spinning out of control from a life-threatening combination of depression and alcohol abuse, and he needed to be hospitalized. He had lost his youthful optimism and had no ambition or goals, nor any dreams to nurture his creativity.

Slowly, over several years, Brad emerged from his depression, assisted in no small part by the love and support of a wonderful woman, Karen, whose presence in his life Fate had seen fit to grace him with during his darkest hours. He went on to graduate from college and began his teaching career, and he and Karen brought three beautiful children into the world. Yet despite his busy, successful life, there was still something missing. He felt an emptiness that he couldn’t quite describe – it was floating there, under the surface, the vague knowledge that there was something more he had been destined to achieve.

Several years later fate intervened. A chance encounter with a stranger set off a chain of events that would alter the course of Brad’s life forever. The seed of a dream had been planted by the stranger’s intriguing story, and it turned out to be the spark he needed to initiate a complete physical, mental and spiritual transformation. He committed himself to pursuing this dream wherever the journey might lead him.

What you read here at Trail Dreams, and what you see and hear at one of Brad’s presentations or workshops is the story of one man’s passion to experience life to its fullest, to take risks, to imagine a better world. It’s a story about the true source of our happiness and inner peace. It’s a story we can all take to heart, for it’s proof positive that no matter what our personal circumstances are, we too can rise above them if we just have the courage to dream.

Brad’s work isn’t finished yet. He still has many more trails to hike. But now his greatest dream is to touch as many lives as possible – particularly teens and young adults – and to spread his personal message of enlightenment and hope. We hope you’ll accompany him on the journey.
